How does chiropractic relate to icebergs? Remember the iceberg that sunk the ‘unsinkable’ Titanic? Well it turns out that icebergs can be an excellent analogy to explain your health, there’s what you can see and what you can’t see that could be affecting you.
The tip of the iceberg
What you can see of the iceberg is symbolic of symptoms, such as:
- Back pain
- Hip pain
- Neck pain
“The symptoms usually cause discomfort, pain and the person tends to feel ‘unwell’ and ‘unhealthy’. As they become either more frequent, appear to be getting worse or lasting longer, then the person takes more notice. The danger here is symptoms can come and go depending on different stresses, strains and lifestyle choices that are put on the body. So the symptoms may be minimised and even ignored, or covered up with different medications – over the counter or prescribed.”
Regular chiropractic care proves to deliver the greatest results. Studies continue to show the people who utilise chiropractic care with ongoing check-ups and adjustments experience better overall health than those who did not.1
The iceberg beneath the surface
The most important part of this analogy is the bottom of the iceberg that is unseen. That can be where the true cause lies. By addressing these unseen symptoms, there is a better chance of fixing the issue and maintaining a healthier you. The issues that you can’t see, the rest of the iceberg beneath the surface, are the causes.
Underlying causes (not limited to):
- Hormonal imbalance
- Inflammatory imbalance
- Immune imbalances
- Toxic emotions (anger, fear, resentment, etc.)
- Digestive, absorptive and microbiological imbalances
Certain underlying causes can lead to diseases, which include:
- Heart disease
- Auto-immune disease
By acknowledging if you experience some of these symptoms and becoming aware of what could be ailing your body, preventative measures, such as a chiropractic care plan, can be used to help maintain a healthier you and diminish the iceberg both above and below the water.
